1st October 2010.

As part of her commitment to see young people taking the lead in development issues especially those that affect them as contained in her vision; Youth Organization for Health and Development Initiatives (YOHaD), mobilized young people from different Community Based Organizations in Rivers State for one day seminar and rally to mark Nigeria’s 50th Independence Anniversary (golden jubilee) tagged Nigeria @ 50.

During the seminar session which is aimed at encouraging young people not to give up in the country irrespective of its present condition, participants were admonished to be patriotic citizen, as selfless service and love for the country is a major factor that will drive them to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development since they have no other country they can call their own.

Worgu Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, YOHaD Executive Director speaking to the youths iterated that young people have a major role to play in National Development not just as future leader but also for the fact that the youths are the economic bedrock of any country. He challenged them to shun corruption, cultism, violence and other vices that can affect them negatively and embrace activities that will empower them, as the future of the country depends on the quality of young people raised today.

On why YOHaD was celebrating, he stated that there is need to celebrate; first for life which God almighty gave to the Board, Staff and Volunteers of YOHaD and for enabling/peaceful environment which the organization enjoyed within the year.

Secondly for Nigeria as a country which God has not allowed to have another Civil war for decades irrespective of numerous challenges facing her. He went further to say that we need to appreciate God for giving us Nigeria, a land endowed with natural resources, with one of the best weather on earth and without major natural disaster to mention but few, and optimistic that Nigeria and her citizens will enjoy this wealth in full in the nearest future.

The Project Manager Ahunanyah Maxwell lauded the participants for displaying zeal, in the bid to raise awareness and celebrate the nation.
After the seminar and prayer, participants rallied from YOHaD office, 33 old Aba road, to liberation stadium where Rivers State Government marked the day and participated in the march-past.
